Police Investigate Murder and Robbery Syndicate in Mityana and Kassanda Districts

The breakthrough came on December 27, 2024, when Sseguya was arrested in connection with an aggravated robbery at the SACCO headquarters in Kanyogoga Village, Sekanyonyi.

 

The Wamala Flying Squad Unit, in collaboration with local police in Mityana, has made a significant breakthrough in investigating a series of aggravated robberies and murders across Mityana, Kassanda, and parts of Kampala.

The crimes, which occurred between November 2024 and January 2025, led to the arrest of ten suspects, aged between 19 and 28 years.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ivan Sseguya, alias Bashir (19), Godfrey Agaba alias Boge (19), Shafik Kabugo alias Fik (19), and Simon Kiiza alias Andrew (23).

Others are Mathias Ndyanabo (28), Nicholas Turyahebwa (19), Peter Nsabimana alias Kajambiya (22), Sam Nakitulimana (20), Mubibi (22), and Umaru Kayemba (25).

The breakthrough came on December 27, 2024, when Sseguya was arrested in connection with an aggravated robbery at the SACCO headquarters in Kanyogoga Village, Sekanyonyi.

During interrogation, Sseguya revealed the identities of his accomplices, leading to further arrests in Mityana Municipality, Nansana Municipality, and Kassanda District.

The suspects have confessed to participating in multiple robberies across Mityana, Kassanda, and parts of Kampala.

Several incidents of robbery in Mityana District have been linked to the suspects. On December 27, 2024, Ssebagereka Vincent was attacked at Kikuuta Village, and his 15-year-old daughter was defiled.

On the same day, Noelina Namilimu from Lukingiride Village, Kalangalo Sub-County, was robbed of UGX 500,000, and Samuel Kasozi from Nakilagala Village was robbed of Shs70,000.

SACCO offices in Kanyogoga Village, Sekanyonyi Town Council, were also broken into on December 27, 2024. On January 3, 2025, Matayo Ssali and his wife, Faith Tumwedaze, were attacked at Kalangalo Village.

Mobile phones and an unspecified amount of money were stolen, and the maid was raped. Tumwedaze tragically passed away on January 4, 2025.

On the same day, Kizito from Kalangalo Village was robbed of mobile phones, and Dan Munyakindi from Kalangalo LC1 Village was robbed of Shs4.5 million in SACCO money.

The suspects also confessed to housebreakings, burglaries, and theft in areas such as Namukozi and Wabigalo in Mityana District.

In Kassanda District, the syndicate is believed to have carried out several robberies, including an incident on December 20, 2024, when Stella Tumwebaze from Bukuya Trading Center was robbed of Shs3m laptops, and mobile phones.

On December 30, 2024, Yusufu Salongo Sserunjogi was robbed of mobile phones, a national ID, and an unspecified amount of money. Other incidents include the robbery of Matayo Lugeye’s mobile phone on November 3, 2024, and the robbery of Yakobo Kahutu on November 18, 2024, who lost Shs10 m and mobile phones.

Erick Mfitumukiza was robbed of Shs6.5m and mobile phones on December 25, 2024. Julius Muwonge was robbed on December 17, 2024, of a motorcycle, televisions, mobile phones, Shs1m and two suitcases.

The suspects have also admitted to additional crimes in the region, including housebreakings and burglaries.

During searches of the suspects' premises, the police recovered several exhibits, including mobile phones identified by the victims and burglary tools.

The police have praised community members for providing crucial information that helped dismantle this criminal ring.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional suspects are being sought. SP Rachael Kawala, Police spokesperson for the Wamala Region, confirmed the arrests and expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation.

"We commend our task teams and thank community members who provided critical information that helped dismantle this criminal gang,” she said.

Efforts continue to apprehend all those involved in the criminal activities.
