The Wakiso Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Justine Mbabazi, has urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into a tragic shooting incident tied to a land dispute in Lutembe.
The incident involved the family of the late Ausi Matovu - who was reportedly shot dead - and a security company, Saracen.
The dispute centres on land contested by Eritrean national Musa Afeewerk Tekle and Matovu’s family.
Witnesses reported that tensions escalated when Saracen guards allegedly opened fire during a confrontation, injuring family members and alarming local residents.
Mubiru Miiro, one of the victims, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was rushed to Mulago Hospital.
Mbabazi, who visited the scene, condemned the violence and urged calm within the community. She stressed the importance of a thorough investigation, stating, “We cannot allow such acts of violence to go unpunished. It is imperative that we uphold the law and ensure the safety of our citizens.”
The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who criticized the growing presence of private security firms and their alleged use of excessive force. Many gathered to demand government action against such practices.
Deputy RDC for Busiro South, Sheikh Kasim Kamugisha, called for stricter oversight, emphasizing the need for private security companies to operate within legal boundaries.

Mbabazi has urged those aggrieved by the land dispute to seek legal redress rather than resorting to violence. She called for unity and patience as authorities handle the investigation, highlighting the importance of maintaining peace in the community.
