Police Break Notorious Kyebando Gang

Kampala police have arrested six members of a notorious panga-wielding gang in an intelligence-led operation conducted on November 20, 2024, at 4:00 a.m. in Kyebando village, Nansana.

The operation followed a tip-off from a reliable source, leading to the arrest of Imran Kakeeto, 17, who later revealed the identities of other gang members during interrogation.

The suspects include Emable Manaishimwe, 23, Aaron Nyweza, 20, Mike Muyingo, 24, Godfrey Agaba, 18, and John Mutebi, 17.

All are residents of Kyebando and boda boda operators, except for Mutebi, who is described as a robber.

Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the arrests, saying, "This gang has been terrorizing Kampala and surrounding areas, targeting individuals with valuables and using pangas, hammers, and other tools to break into properties.

"Their recent operation in Bukuya, Kasanda District, involved attacking victims and robbing them of their possessions."

Police recovered two motorcycles (UGG 375G and UFC 613N) and six mobile phones believed to belong to the gang’s victims.

Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other associates, including their leader, Sserugo, who remains at large. Onyango assured the public, “We are committed to dismantling such criminal networks and ensuring community safety.”
