Robbers lose pistol to boda bodas, locals during chase
Police in Kampala have kicked off investigations into circumstances under which armed robbers lost a pistol during a chase by boda boda riders and locals.
The incident according to Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, happened on Saturday at around 9:30pm, Ibrahim Nsegoyinva, 46 a boda boda rider parked near Mia Mia supermarket in Namuwongo heard people making an alarm and sought to help them.

“He immediately he saw two men emerging from the said supermarket while running towards him. He then started his motorcycle and chased them before he was joined by other people in the chase. One man disappeared but continued chasing one along 8th Street at Namuwongo taxi stage,” Owoyesigyire said.
According to police, while being chased, the assailant was seen throwing an unknown item in a nearby trench, before he was arrested by the mob.
Meanhwile, a security guard who was nearby flashed his phone and identified a pistol that had been thrown into the trench.
"The security guard later picked the pistol from the trench and rushed it to Kisugu Police Station. It was found with eight rounds of ammunition.”
Meanwhile, the second suspect was also apprehended by the locals before he too was handed over to police.
Owoyesigyire named the two suspects as Edwin Lukwago and Ezekiel Asiimwe who were handed over to Kanyogoga Police Post.
He added that the duo has since been handed over to the Police Flying Squad for further interrogation about the pistol to ascertain where it was got and whether it has ever been used to carry out other robberies.
The case has since been opened at Kisugu police station under SD Ref.35/02/11/2024 and being investigated under CRB 275/2022.
