Kampala Offices Targeted in Major Break-in Shs 51M Stolen

Kampala Metropolitan Police are investigating a major break-in and theft at Kyolina Kyekikweyimilira Limited, a Microfinance company located in Kiwatule Parish, Nakawa Division.

The incident, which occurred during the night of 20th October 2024, resulted in the loss of over UGX 51 million in cash, as well as 45 laptops and 50 mobile phones.

In a press statement, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the details of the break-in. “Unknown individuals gained access to the offices by cutting through iron sheets and a wooden ceiling. They also dismantled the safe, security cameras, and internal systems, making this a highly coordinated theft,” he stated.

The case was reported by Nakayima Hellen, a loans officer at the company, who discovered the break-in early on the morning of 21st October. According to Owoyesigyire’s statement, the burglars also cut through the internal padlock on the front door and stole clients’ property, which had been held as loan collateral.
