Former Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) top officials are spending yet another night in police custody following their arrest yesterday.
Former Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, her deputy David Luyimbazi, and Director of Public Health Daniel Okello, who are linked to the Kiteezi landfill tragedy, had their homes searched by police as part of ongoing investigations.
Kisaka, who was detained at Kira Division Police, was transported to her residence in Komamboga under tight security.
A convoy of police vehicles, including a drone car, arrived at her home where a search lasting over four hours was conducted.
Komamboga Central Zone Village chairperson Noah Sserumaga witnessed the search and confirmed that no incriminating items were found on the premises.
"Nothing unusual was discovered at Kisaka’s home," Sserumaga told reporters after the search.
Simultaneously, Eng Luyimbazi and Okello, both held at Natete Police Station, were also transported to their homes for searches.
Police drones carrying the two men split up, with one headed to Okello's residence in Sisa, Kira Division, and the other to Luyimbazi's home in Ggaba.
Muhammad Bazirengedde, Luyimbazi's lawyer, was present during the search at his client's home.
Despite the searches, the former KCCA officials were returned to their respective places of custody after several hours.
The arrest of the three embattled officials is part of investigations into the Kiteezi garbage slide, which claimed the lives of over 30 people.
Police have not yet revealed any further details regarding the progress of the case or possible charges against the former officials.
As investigations continue, the public is eager to know the outcome of the probe, especially given the magnitude of the Kiteezi tragedy and the impact it has had on affected families.
For now, Kisaka, Luyimbazi, and Okello remain in custody, with more developments expected in the coming days.
