The deceased, identified as Rajab Mutazimbwe Mwagalwa, was a resident of Kitonzi A Cell in Kitonzi Parish, Ntara Sub County.

Police in Kitagwenda District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspected suicide of a 25-year-old man who was found hanging from a tree.

The deceased, identified as Rajab Mutazimbwe Mwagalwa, was a resident of Kitonzi A Cell in Kitonzi Parish, Ntara Sub County.

His lifeless body was discovered under a tree near a local farm on Monday morning by residents.

Mikidadi Byamukama, the chairperson of Ntara Sub-county, reported that Mwagalwa was known in the community as a notorious thief and had recently been released from prison after serving a sentence.

ASP Bashir Bakulumpagi, the District Police Commander, confirmed the incident, stating that he was informed around 8am by local leaders about the discovery of the body.

"At approximately 8am, I received telephone calls from the LC1 chairperson and the parish chairperson regarding the incident. We have already intensified investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the deceased's death," Bakulumpagi explained.

According to witnesses, Mwagalwa was last seen in good health on Sunday night around 10pm.

"Residents report that they saw him yesterday at about 10 p.m., and he appeared to be in good condition," he added.

Bakulumpagi urged residents, particularly the youth, to seek alternative means of addressing their problems rather than resorting to suicide.

"Avoid keeping silent when faced with challenges. A problem shared is a problem halved. Talk to a trusted friend or relative to help relieve your mind," he advised.

The body has been transferred to Ntara Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.

While incidents of suicide among young adults in Kitagwenda have been relatively rare, this tragic case marks the third suicide in the area in the past two months.
