Police in Nakasongola have started investigating circumstances under which a shamba boy allegedly defiled eight pupils at a primary school.

Peter Mayanja was arrested after being accused of defiling eight pupils aged between 7 and 13 years of age at  Ekitangala Primary School in Kakooge Sub-county, Nakasongola District.

Savannah Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Sam Twineamaizima  said the horrifying acts took place between 2023 and July 2024 .

"Preliminary observations indicate that between the y 2023 up to July 2024, at Ekitangala Primary School  Mayanja , a shamba boy  at the said school allegedly defiled some pupils that he was staying with  at his home located within the School" Twineamaizima said.

The matter came to light on July 24, 2024, during a school meeting where the brave victims disclosed the ordeal they had endured and upon hearing this, swift action was taken by the school administration, who immediately reported the incident to Kakooge Police Station.

Police responded promptly, Mayanja was subsequently arrested and detained at Nakasongola Central Police Station, opening a case of aggravated defilement as investigations commence and medical examinations were also carried out on all the victims.

The police have assured the public that they are committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice and providing support to the victims.

This disturbing incident highlights the urgent need for increased protection of children and the importance of creating safe learning environments.
