Body of unknown man baffles Masaka's Soweto village
The residents of Soweto village in Masaka City are in baffled following the discovery of a man's body in their community.
The body, found early on Monday morning, was dumped in a shack near Nyendo Mukungwe MP Mathias Mpuuga’s home.
The body was first spotted by a resident who had gone to graze her goat in a nearby bush around a container near Mpuuga’s home.
According to the residents, the area has seen an increase in criminal activities, despite efforts to tighten security.
"The area has become a shamble, and sometimes criminals rob the area, they come and dump bodies in that iron sheet which they call ekibaatu," said residents.
Village chairman Joseph Ssenzoga speculated that the man could have been killed elsewhere and his body dumped in Soweto village.
"The man is unknown to our village, and we have no information about him. It is likely he was murdered elsewhere and then brought here," Ssenzoga explained.
The body has been taken to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for further examination and identification.
The police have launched an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the man's death and to identify the perpetrators.
Southern Region Police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye confirmed the discovery and assured the public that the police are working diligently to solve the case.
"We have initiated an investigation into this incident. Our officers are on the ground gathering evidence and we urge anyone with information to come forward," Kasirye said.
