Police at Wandegeya have arrested  one, Peter Mutebi over siphoning fuel at Mulago mortuary washing bay, Wandegeya parish Kawempe Division.

Mutebi, a resident of Quorta zone, Kyebando parish, Kawempe Division, was arrested on Thursday during intelligence led operations targeting criminals siphoning fuel.

The operation followed a video footage that circulated on social media showing three people siphoning fuel from a vehicle, double cabin grey in colour.

Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango confirmed Mutebi’s arrest and said a number of other suspects are still at large.

“The key suspect in that footage was arrested and has been identified as Peter Mutebi aged 30 years, unemployed and a resident of Quorta zone, Kyebando parish, Kawempe Division in Kampala District,” Onyango said.

“Police recovered exhibits from the scene. The suspect has been charged with stealing from motor vehicle,” he added.

According to the mouthpiece, the suspects still at large include; Asiku, Lubwama, Mawanda John, Emma, and Kalema.

Intelligence reveals that over 20 vehicles are siphoned on daily basis and the fuel is sold out to boda boda ridders at Shs 5,000 per two litres whereas diesel is sold in Bwaise.

It is also suggested that some drivers connive with criminals to siphon the fuel from their bosses' vehicles.
