The Crime Report 2023, released on Wednesday, says Katwe, in KMP North, and Jinja Road Police in KMP South registered the highest cases of vehicle and motorcycle theft.

KAMPALA | Your vehicle or motorcycle is most likely to be stolen from Kampala Metropolitan Police's north and south divisions than anywhere else in the country.

The Crime Report 2023, released on Wednesday, says Katwe, in KMP North, and Jinja Road Police in KMP South registered the highest cases of vehicle and motorcycle theft.

In 2023, the Met Police faced persistent challenges with motor vehicle and motorcycle thefts, with KMP North and KMP South emerging as the leading regions in these crimes.

Within KMP North, which includes areas like Kawempe and Wandegeya Police Stations, there were 206 reported cases of motor vehicle theft, while KMP South, housing Katwe Police Station, kabakagala and many others recorded 203 cases.

Similarly, in motorcycle theft, KMP North and South led the statistics, with 853 and 673 cases, respectively.

Kalve Police Division notably reported the highest motorcycle theft cases with 220 incidents.

Concerning Motorcycle Theft, there was an increase of 6.9 percent from 5,675 cases in 2022 to 6,065 cases in 2023. KMP North and KMP South also emerged as the leading regions in this category, with 853 and 673 cases respectively.

Among the districts, Kalve Police Division took the lead with 220 cases of Motorcycle Theft, followed by Kaverpe Police Division with 205 cases.

In a remarkable turn of events, This reveals some cases October 26, 2023.

The stolen vehicles included Ipsums with registrations UAR 054S and UAN 397 U, Noahs with registrations UBA 306F and UAP 295T, and a Rav4 with registration UAQ 508D. The recovery was made possible through a Flying Squad Unit operation targeting motor vehicle thieves within the Kampala Metropolitan area.

These statistics highlight the persistent challenges posed by thefts of motor vehicles and motorcycles, with certain regions and districts consistently experiencing higher incidences.

Efforts to address these issues require targeted interventions and collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities in these areas.
