The victory of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Kassanda South Constituency is under scrutiny after independent candidate Eria Mubiru filed an election petition challenging the declaration of Hajji Abdul Bisaso as Member of Parliament.
Mubiru, through Kanduho & Co. Advocates, Alaka & Co. Advocates, and Praclex Advocates, has petitioned the Mubende High Court, naming Bisaso as the first respondent and the Electoral Commission as the second respondent.
In the petition, Mubiru alleges widespread vote rigging across multiple polling stations. He claims that at St. Paul Nakasozi Polling Station, he received 41 votes but was officially recorded with only one.
He further cites discrepancies at several polling stations, including Bunakabwa Mosque, Nakabimbe Catholic Church, Myanzi Kampiri Primary School, Kitalegwa, and Katugo Roman Catholic Church, where he alleges his votes were either reduced or misallocated, in some cases benefiting Bisaso.
When contacted, Bisaso said he had not yet been served with the petition.
“I have not been served by Mubiru’s side,” he said, dismissing the allegations as baseless.
Bisaso added that he had previously defeated Mubiru in the NRM primaries and again in the general election.
“I defeated him in the primaries, he went to the tribunal and got nothing. I defeated him again in the general elections. I have beaten him several times,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the petition would not overturn his victory.
“I believe God already anointed me to be the MP for Kassanda South. My supporters should not worry. If it is true that a petition has been filed, we shall still win,” he added.
The Kassanda South parliamentary race also featured incumbent Frank Kabuye of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Julius Kizza of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), and Hajji Abdul Bisaso of the NRM. Mubiru contested as an independent after losing in the NRM primaries.
