Ken Nyombi, the man accused of impersonating a doctor under the alias "Dr. Innocent Ssemanda," has been further remanded by the Buganda Road Court.

Presiding Senior Principal Magistrate Grade One Winnie Nankya Jatiko adjourned the case to January 31, 2025, following a bail hearing where the defense failed to meet the court’s requirements.

Nyombi, who allegedly forged academic documents to register as a medical practitioner, has been accused of deceiving patients and healthcare institutions for over a decade.

His arrest followed an investigative exposé that uncovered his fraudulent medical career, which caused health complications for several victims.

During the bail application, Nyombi’s lawyer, Ssekeezi Steven, argued that he is the primary breadwinner for his family and presented sureties for his release.

However, State Attorney Nam Terpister opposed the application, citing concerns about inconsistencies in Nyombi’s claims and doubts surrounding the credibility of the sureties.

“Investigations revealed that the accused initially claimed he was from Kasangati Town Council in Wakiso District, but his wife relocated from the area after his arrest, making his current residence unclear,” Terpister noted.

The magistrate ruled that the sureties presented were insufficient and ordered the accused to remain in custody as investigations continue.

Nyombi is charged with forgery, impersonation, and obtaining registration by false pretenses under the Penal Code Act.

His fraudulent activities, including performing surgeries and other medical procedures without qualifications, have drawn widespread condemnation.

Victims continue to demand accountability, including one woman who suffered severe complications following surgery performed at a clinic where Nyombi allegedly practiced.

The case will resume on January 31, 2025.
