Finance Minister Henry Musasizi has challenged Pride Bank Uganda to deepen financial inclusion by expanding access to affordable credit and aligning its operations with government’s economic transformation agenda.

Musasizi made the remarks on Thursday while speaking at the Annual General Meeting of Pride Bank, where he urged the financial institution to increase support to Ugandans seeking capital to invest in productive activities.

He said affordable financing remains critical to growing the private sector, improving livelihoods and moving more Ugandans into the money economy.

The minister called on Pride Bank to support government programmes, including the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, which are aimed at increasing household incomes and promoting enterprise development at community level.

"Affordable financing is critical to unlocking private sector growth and improving livelihoods across the country," Musasizi said.

He commended Pride Bank for its growth and successful transition to Tier II status, describing the milestone as an important contribution to strengthening Uganda’s financial sector.

Musasizi said government would allow the bank to retain its dividends as part of efforts to boost its capital base and support further expansion.

"We shall support you to mobilise additional capital so that you can deepen financial services," he said.

The Chairman of the Pride Bank Board of Directors, Francis Tumuheirwe, called for increased government support towards indigenous financial institutions through business opportunities and access to concessional financing.

Tumuheirwe said the bank recorded strong financial performance in 2025, with profit after tax increasing by 41 percent to Shs11.55 billion.

He added that customer deposits grew by 58 percent from Shs178.22 billion to Shs281.96 billion, while total assets increased by 28 percent from Shs448.33 billion to Shs574.41 billion within the same period.

Pride Bank Managing Director Veronicah Gladys Namagembe said the institution is contributing to Uganda’s Tenfold Growth Strategy by supporting agricultural value chains, small and medium enterprises and initiatives aimed at improving economic resilience through financial inclusion.

She said the bank remains focused on providing financial solutions that enable businesses and communities to grow.

The Annual General Meeting was attended by the Minister of State for Privatisation and Investment, Hajjat Aminah Mukalazi, and the Minister of State for General Duties, Cissy Mulondo.

Mukalazi urged Pride Bank to expand its support to more value chains and extend financial services to underserved groups, particularly young people, women and farmers.
