As Uganda marked Heroes Day, senior officials at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development concluded high-level preparations for the FY2026/27 national budget, which now stands at Shs84.4 trillion.
The finalisation meeting was led by Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury Dr. Ramathan Ggoobi, who convened senior technical teams at the ministry headquarters to refine the details of the spending framework ahead of its public presentation.
The budget will be read by Finance Minister Henry Musasizi on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. It will be his first national budget speech since assuming leadership of the finance docket.
Officials describe the FY2026/27 budget as a “people-centred” financial plan aimed at expanding household incomes, boosting productivity, and accelerating Uganda’s long-term socio-economic transformation agenda.
The Shs84.4 trillion package is expected to prioritise economic growth, improved public service delivery, and support for key productive sectors as government advances its ambition of transitioning into a middle-income, high-growth economy.
According to the ministry, the budget aligns with Uganda’s broader development vision, including efforts to scale the economy towards the $500 billion target in the coming years through increased investment, industrialisation, and job creation.
Government technocrats have expressed confidence that the fiscal plan will unlock opportunities for farmers, small businesses, entrepreneurs, and investors while sustaining ongoing infrastructure and social development programmes.
As the country awaits Budget Day, the ministry continues to promote public awareness under campaign themes such as #KnowYourBudget26, #TenfoldGrowth, and #USD500bnEconomy, aimed at encouraging citizen engagement in national planning.
Attention now turns to Kololo, where Ugandans will hear the government’s spending priorities and policy direction for the 2026/27 financial year.
