NSSF Targets Defaulters With Enhanced Whistleblower System, Promises Tougher Enforcement

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has launched a whistleblower campaign dubbed “Protect Your Future”, aimed at empowering employees to report employers who fail to remit statutory social security contributions.

According to NSSF, the campaign seeks to strengthen collaboration between the Fund and its members to hold non-compliant employers accountable and recover outstanding contributions—together with interest—for affected employees.

A key feature of the initiative is a revamped web-based platform that enables members to anonymously report employers who are not remitting their contributions. Officials say the upgraded system is intended to protect whistleblowers, improve NSSF’s compliance rate, and safeguard workers’ future savings.

The platform has also been expanded to allow government labour inspectors to report government contractors who fail to remit social security contributions. After an initial review, employers are given an opportunity to voluntarily comply and clear arrears. Those who refuse face enforcement measures, including prosecution.

NSSF Managing Director Patrick Ayota said the campaign is part of a broader strategy to encourage a stronger savings culture among workers.

“To create the willingness to save, we have prioritized maximizing coverage and contributions by putting in place an ecosystem of services designed to stimulate and enhance the uptake of voluntary contributions,” Ayota said.

The Fund believes the whistleblower-driven approach will accelerate compliance, strengthen worker protection, and reinforce public confidence in the national social security system.
