Uganda Airlines has addressed recent disruptions affecting some of its long-haul and regional services, following reports that one of its Airbus A330-800neo aircraft had been grounded in London.

In a statement released on October 2, Ms Shakila Rahim Lama, Head of Communication and Corporate Affairs, clarified that the aircraft, registered 5X-NIL Mt Elgon, experienced a technical issue at London Gatwick on September 26.

The airline cancelled flight UR 111 from London to Entebbe as a precaution, citing safety as its top priority.

“Due to ongoing global supply chain challenges, sourcing and delivering the required spare parts to London took longer than expected. We are pleased to confirm that the technical issue has now been fully resolved, and the aircraft is back in service,” Ms Lama said.

The disruption follows a series of operational challenges for the national carrier, which partially restored its long-haul schedule on September 25 after earlier cancellations.

Routes primarily affected included London-Gatwick, Mumbai, Dubai, and regional flights between Lagos and Abuja.

Despite the setbacks, flights to Dubai, Mumbai, and London were successfully operated later that week.

The airline has acknowledged that delays have affected passengers, particularly those with urgent commitments.

Pamela Keirungi Babirukamu, one of those affected, last week expressed frustration after her Mumbai flight was repeatedly rescheduled without clear communication.

She said she was left stranded in a hotel in the Indian city with no updates, impacting personal and professional plans.

“I’m not asking for sympathy; I’m asking for accountability, transparency, and basic dignity,” Ms Babirukamu wrote in a public complaint.

She urged Uganda Airlines to provide clear updates, apologies, and responsible handling of the affected passengers.

Uganda Airlines, revived in 2019, has been steadily expanding its network, including the launch of direct Entebbe–London Gatwick flights in May 2025.

The airline said it remains committed to restoring all flights and providing reliable service as it grows into a regional air travel hub.

Passengers are encouraged to contact Uganda Airlines directly or their travel partners for updates on schedules and assistance.
