Airtel Uganda has continued its nationwide network expansion to improve connectivity in underserved regions by commissioning new network sites across three regions in Uganda.
The new sites have been launched in Northern, Eastern, and Western Uganda throughout the month of
May.
This strategic expansion is part of Airtel’s nationwide campaign to extend quality connectivity to underserved communities, reinforcing Airtel’s commitment to digital inclusion and national development.
The extensive rollout has seen substantial growth in network coverage across all three regions.
In Northern Uganda, Lira District has benefited from 15 new sites, including key areas such as Puranga, Aromo, Opwakere, ATC_Awiodyek, Lango College, and Okec Oyere.
Eastern Uganda has seen strategic site launches in Soroti (Kapujar, Agonga, and Ocokican), Pallisa (ATC_Oludat), and Mbale (Wanale).
Western Uganda has experienced a significant boost in connectivity with three new sites in Fort Portal (Kijura, Sebitoli, Mugura), two in Kyenjojo (Katooke, and Kihoni), two in Kasese (Kyanjuki, and Mabuku), and three in Hoima (Katashia, Hoima, Kasese, and Nyarugabu).
David Birungi, Airtel Uganda’s Public Relations Manager, emphasized the transformative impact of this initiative.
“The local economy is these areas is growing, and we act of the feedback of our customers in ensuring that our services exceed their expectations. Airtel Uganda always invests ahead of need. These new sites, which build on this national footprint, are not just about extending coverage; they are about connecting communities, enabling access to vital services, and fostering economic growth in previously underserved areas.”
The commissioning of these network sites is expected to benefit thousands of residents, supporting essential services across various sectors, including education, health, agriculture, and trade. This initiative, further complemented by Airtel Uganda’s recent contribution of shs37.9 billion to the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to extend digital access to even the most remote parts of Uganda, aligns with Airtel Uganda’s national broadband strategy, aiming to deliver reliable 4G service across 100% of Uganda’s districts.
