The much-anticipated Mambugu Market in Kagadi Town Council is set to commence operations, with businesspeople urged to secure stalls before the March 20 deadline.
Kagadi Town Council Mayor Geoffrey Businge, alongside Principal Town Clerk John Isingoma, announced the development during a press briefing at the town council boardroom.
Businge described the market as a key project for the 2024/2025 financial year and confirmed that it will be officially commissioned on April 29, 2025.
“We want to ask businesspeople to start getting stalls. By April, the market will be operational. We are hopeful it will benefit the people while also boosting our revenue,” he said.
The market will run under a public-private partnership model. Isingoma confirmed that stall sales have begun, with each priced at Shs 200,000.
“We sat as leaders and agreed on this figure, which we believe is fair to our people, most of whom are still struggling,” he said.
The market will accommodate vendors selling food, fruits, clothing, meat, fish, and livestock, among other items.
Isingoma assured the public of proper sanitation and security, urging vendors to act quickly as only 250 stalls are available and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
“We will do our best as a town council, but we also expect our vendors to maintain hygiene and comply with the set rules,” he said.
