The Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara, has urged fellow government officials to embrace alternative income-generating activities to avoid misuse of public funds.

The minister, celebrated as one of Uganda's leading event organisers, reaffirmed his dedication to his profession despite his ministerial responsibilities.
"Being a minister is about serving the people, not just holding a title," he said, emphasising that his involvement in event management allows him to remain grounded and avoid the temptation of financial impropriety.
Minister Balaam encouraged leaders to adopt similar strategies to uphold integrity and accountability in public office.
"By pursuing legitimate side ventures, we can demonstrate responsible leadership and ensure we do not exploit taxpayers’ money," he noted.
The minister also reflected on the growing popularity of year-end celebrations among Ugandans.
“These events foster a sense of community and unity as people come together to celebrate their achievements,” he remarked, noting the role such gatherings play in promoting social cohesion.
In his New Year’s message to the youth, Mr Balaam emphasised the significance of discipline and responsible living.
He urged young people to prioritise personal development and steer clear of destructive habits, saying, “Discipline is the foundation of success. Let 2025 be a year of transformation for our youth.”
