Traders under their umbrella body Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) are projecting a positive outlook for the 2024/25 financial year despite multiple clashes with the tax man the previous year.
According to the Chairman of the Kampala City Traders Association Thaddeus Musoke Nagenda, the textiles section is topping their priorities this financial year with hope of turning it into the manufacturing sector, with this he believes will boost their financial growth going forward.
Kikuubo remains the heartbeat of trade and the heart that pumps blood into the Ugandan economy through different merchandise and goods that are traded here.
While the Financial year 2024/24 begins, KACITA projects a positive outlook of the incumbent financial year with the textiles section expected to drive their sector.
Traders further appealed to government for an additional special fund to uplift and support traders to market the Ugandan products through the Buy Uganda and Build Uganda programme.
"The president promised us a special fund that will shall us to support our initiative of supporting traders to market the Ugandan products through the Buy Uganda Build Uganda Initiative" Musoke said
Despite numerous times of locking horns with the tax man, KACITA still grapples with challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, access to finance and regulatory obstacles nevertheless, the sector continues to contribute significantly to the country’s economy.
