During their five-day exchange visit in the Rwenzori region, 28 constituencies of Emyooga Saccos from 12 districts received guidance on effective management and developing future leaders to ensure the sustainability and longevity of their Saccos.

This exposure visit, organized by the Microfinance Support Centre, involved taking these Emyooga saccos to various established ones across the region, such as Ruwenzori Diocese Sacco (RUDI), Rwakyakikunya Sacco, Bagezza Sacco, and Kihondo Tukwatanize Sacco (KITU SACCO), Bunyangabo Beekeeper's Community Sacco(BBC).

All of these emphasized the critical importance of having competent and effective Sacco leadership.

Emmanuel Mbogha, the MSC Zonal manager Rwenzori region said this exchange visit was  impactful to the Saccos and it intends to build their capacity in terms of exposure .

"The point of emphasis here is to ensure that all our Saccos in the region have operational offices and have staff that are able to run their daily activities for us to appreciate and also continuously monitor how they are performing. As  Microfinance Support Centre, our role is to build the capacity and the point of emphasis here is to have all the saccos perform very well and have roots in future," Mbogha said.

He  noted that because of  support from Microfinance Support Centre , Emyooga Saccos in Kabarole Zone are doing so well.

"I am happy that Emyooga Saccos in my zone are doing well just because of the effort of microfinance Support Centre in terms of capacity building."

Nicholas Amanyire, the general manager of Rwakyakikunya Sacco, emphasized the importance of strong leadership as foundational for all endeavors.

He urged Sacco leaders to nurture future leaders."

"We have seen in most cases, poor leadership has led to the decline of these saccos. Have good and committed leadership, these will take your saccos to the promised land and they will grow as big as our Saccos. We have seen people grow in different stages, nurturing someone requires, individual training and give them the required environment to see the person grow in that institution."

Moses Bwambale, the Chairperson of Bwamba restaurant owners Emyooga Sacco in Bundibujo district, hailed MSC and government at large  for convening  such exchange visits.

"We've learnt a lot.Our Saccos are dying because of management, we have  not  been managing them well. As  board members want to manage the Sacco yet it is not possible because Saccos needs a lot of time. What's killing us is staff, we need to recruit staff who can manage the saccos and for our case our work is to supervise these managers."

Mary Kayesu Mwesige, the chairperson Saloon operator's Saccos in Ntoroko said she learnt a lot of things especially the issue of insurance which has been introduced to them.

"When you give someone your money, you must be having something that incase they die, you have ways to recover your money. So, we have to put a scheme of insurance in our system."

Kayesu praised President Museveni for leading efforts in poverty alleviation among his people.
