Uganda has officially launched its delegation to the Madrid Fruit Attraction Expo, marking a major step in promoting the country’s fruit and vegetable sector on the international stage.

The event, set for September 30 to October 2, 2025, in Spain, aims to enhance product quality, shelf life, and production volumes.

Hon. Bright Rwamirama, Minister of State for Agriculture, flagged off nearly 100 participants representing Team Uganda, urging them to seize business opportunities and showcase the nation’s agricultural potential.

“I strongly support Uganda’s debut at this prestigious event, aligning it with the government’s agro-industrialization policy, which is essential for prosperity and increased farmer income,” Rwamirama said.

He emphasized boosting production, attracting diaspora involvement, encouraging agribusiness investments, and focusing on value addition to stimulate agricultural growth.

Abbey Walusimbi, senior diaspora affairs ddvisor to the President, called on participants to highlight Uganda’s exceptional agricultural produce globally.

“This is an opportunity to strengthen linkages and enhance competitiveness, sustaining Uganda’s agribusiness potential,” Walusimbi said.

Dr Geoffrey Arinaitwe, director of the National Agriculture Coffee Research Institute (NaCORI), highlighted coffee’s importance as Uganda’s leading agricultural export, contributing 25 percent of GDP.

He cited record export volumes of approximately 7.43 million bags last year, generating over $2 billion, and encouraged active promotion of Ugandan coffee at the expo.

Uganda Investment Authority’s representative, Ndagire, underscored the agency’s role in licensing and promoting investments both locally and internationally, while the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation pledged to raise awareness of Uganda’s economic sectors through its Invest in Africa magazine.

Coordinated by the President’s Office (Diaspora Affairs) alongside private sector stakeholders, farmers, and exporters, the launch marks Uganda’s first participation in the Ifema Madrid Fruit Attraction Expo in 16 years, positioning the country to expand market access and foster knowledge sharing.
