The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has issued a directive for the ongoing investigation into a property dispute initiated by the Mukono Muslim District Council to proceed as planned.

During a meeting chaired by Haj Haruna Semakula, the Chairperson of the Mukono Muslim District Council, the UMSC directive was delivered by Haj Ali Juma Ngobi, the UMSC Secretary for Finance and Planning.

The directive stressed the importance of a comprehensive report that would guide the council's next steps.

The stakeholders meeting, which took place at Nagalama Mosque on Saturday, focused on resolving the dispute concerning Nagalama Mosque, the adjacent Nagalama Islamic Institute, and the land sub-leased to a private firm operating a maize mill.

The dispute involves allegations made by the current mosque leadership against former Mosque Committee Members, led by Haj Sinan Muwanga, who are accused of withholding official documents related to the properties.

Among the allegations is the establishment of their association, Nagalama Muslim Community Mission Limited (NAMCOM), without proper authority, and their purported operation of mosque activities and rental of UMSC-owned properties.

Amidst these accusations and counter-accusations, there have been rumours suggesting UMSC's interference with the ongoing investigations initiated by the Mukono Muslim District leadership.

During the meeting, Haj Semakula, Sheikh Abbas Ssenkuba, the Kadhi, and other leaders expressed their concerns about the situation.

However, it became evident that many lacked sufficient information regarding property management systems and policies outlined in the UMSC Constitution.

To address this knowledge gap, Nasser Musa Odongkara, the UMSC Head of Aqwaf and Property, guided the leaders, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the UMSC Constitution in all mosque activities.

Ngobi distributed copies of the UMSC Constitution to the leaders as a reference tool for mosque operations.
