During today's parliamentary plenary session, the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi, issued a stern caution to the government regarding its ongoing plans to merge various entities.

Ssenyoni warned that simply merging organizations without tackling underlying inefficiencies would only exacerbate existing problems.

“Merging entities will not deal with the inefficiencies for as long as we don’t deal with human resources,” Hon. Ssenyonyi stated during the session. “Otherwise, we shall be merging problems,” warned Ssenyonyi

In February this year, the Government introduced nine Bills before Parliament, aimed at legalising provisions to rationalise agencies in different sectors of the economy.

The Bills will amend existing laws that establish agencies in the sectors of trade, education, finance, internal affairs, water and environment, agriculture, works and transport, social development and tourism.

The Bills were tabled by the respective Ministers in charge of the different sectors, before the House on Tuesday, 20 February 2024.
