The Uganda Prisons Service (UPS), in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), has successfully concluded a five-day training program in Kampala aimed at enhancing records and information management for station clerks.
The training, which reflects UPS' dedication to human rights, emphasised adherence to the Nelson Mandela Rules, a globally recognised framework for the humane treatment of prisoners.
These rules advocate for dignity, transparency, and accountability in prison systems, setting a standard that the UPS is committed to upholding.
By equipping clerks with skills to maintain accurate and efficient records, the initiative seeks to improve administrative processes, facilitate informed decision-making, and ensure greater transparency.
Reliable record-keeping is critical in safeguarding the rights of prisoners, as it helps track inmate details, monitor detention conditions, and address grievances promptly.
