University students have been urged to explore the multilingual ecosystem approach for better career opportunities.

The call was made on Wednesday as Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Uganda Police and other partners including; VOCCENT, ECASA, EDUSERV and HOGMAU launched the Multilingual and International Competitive (MIC) Career Ecosystem.

Themed, "Opportunities for Your Competitive Career Positioning in the International Market", the initiative, is aimed at breaking down students' language barriers and facilitate seamless interaction across various linguistic landscapes.

Speaking at the launch, the chief guest, and Commissioner of Police for Community Policing, Anatoli Mutalerwa, highlighted the crucial importance of the initiative, noting that it will empower the youth and ensure that as soon as they go to the world of market, they have the prerequisite experience.

"In this partnership we are envisaging a lot of collaboration where we need to bring all the potential of expertise personalities together and ensuring that these ones nurture and mentor young men and women who are possible managers in these different organizations," Mutalerwa said.

The police commissioner further noted that the partnership will support research and innovations among Ugandan students, as well as bridging communication gaps on a global scale.

"So, today we have seen a transfer of skills from the career managers represented by the different organizations here to the youth. At the end of it all this will be a multiplier effect in ensuring that where people are asked for experiences here you have a one-stop center from which you can tap from that experience and therefore benefit from this information," he said.

Dr Celestine Katongole, the head of Tourism Management at MUBS department noted that the initiative will go as far as helping graduates and students acquire the requisite skills they have been lacking.

He further expressed MUBS' commitment to promoting research and innovation through the initiative.

"You may have heard of such stories and we are saying MUBS is going to be the leader in the changing of that perception. We want to be able to guide you, we want to be able to give you the competences that you need to succeed," Katongole noted

He added, "So please, as we launch these partnerships, as we launch this ecosystem, I kindly request you to deliver this message to your friends, to your colleagues, share on your WhatsApp, share on your social media channels, share, talk, go and spread the news that this is happening, have it, let people come."

The event brought together experts who shared their expertise on the multilingual ecosystem and how students can use the approach to enhance their careers.

During the workshop, students were tipped on real-time translation, context-aware interpretation, seemless integration among others.

Students, also used the platform to showcase their various languages skills.

According to Dr Abby Mutumba, the head of Business Languages at MUBS, the initiative, plays a huge role in enhancing communication in multiple languages.

He adds that the initiative will integrate advanced translation algorithms, real-time interpretation services, and multilingual support features into a cohesive platform.

The ecosystem is tailored to meet the needs of businesses, educational institutions, and individuals who operate in multilingual environments.
