Police in Tororo District are investigating a gruesome murder of a 37-year-old businessman, Ronald Olweny, a resident of Bendo Village, Awiyo Parish, Iyolwa Sub-County.

The incident occurred on January 10, 2025, in Mikiya Village, Mikiya Parish, Mwello Sub-County.

According to Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi South Police spokesperson, the deceased was murdered by yet-to-be-identified assailants.

It's alleged that on the evening of January 9, 2025, at around 7:30pm, Olweny hired a motorcycle, registration number UGG 400J, to travel to Pasindi Trading Centre, where he had recently opened a saloon for his wife, identified as Adongo.

But the following day, one Charles Ofwono attempted to reach Olweny via phone but was shocked when an unidentified person answered.

The receiver claimed the phone’s owner had been taken away in a vehicle whose number plate was not identified.

The receiver also revealed that the phone, along with the motorcycle, had been handed to the Chairman LC1 of Mikiya Village by a resident.

When contacted, the LC1 Chairperson confirmed the motorcycle had been abandoned near the home of an elderly woman, Mary Nyamwenge.

Nyamwenge reportedly discovered the abandoned motorcycle outside her home the following day.

Police officers, alongside the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), visited the area and documented the crime scene.

During the search, a blood-stained motorcycle was recovered near Mary Nyamwenge's residence.

A short distance of approximately 300 meters away, the police discovered a naked, headless body in a cassava plantation.

The deceased’s body was later transported to the Tororo Municipal Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Police have confirmed that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

No suspects have been named so far, and authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could aid the investigation.
