Former Uganda Premier League midfielder Ali Feni has been banned from all football-related activities for life after the Fufa Ethics and Disciplinary Committee found him guilty of orchestrating a match-fixing network involving players and officials.
Fufa announced on Monday that Feni was among five individuals sanctioned following investigations into the manipulation of a Uganda Premier League match between Lugazi and Buhimba United Saints played on November 8, 2025.
The game, which ended in a 5-2 victory for Lugazi, was later flagged for irregularities that triggered disciplinary investigations.
According to Fufa, the former footballer acted as a key link between players and match-fixers, facilitating contacts and arrangements intended to influence match outcomes.
“Feni Ali contacted and linked players to match-fixers for the purpose of manipulating matches,” Fufa said in its ruling, adding that his involvement extended beyond a single fixture.
The disciplinary body found that Feni coordinated match-fixing activities across multiple games, including the Lugazi versus Buhimba United Saints encounter.
As a result, he received a lifetime ban from all football-related activities, whether administrative, sporting or otherwise.
The investigation also implicated several members of Buhimba United Saints, who received lengthy suspensions after being found guilty of violating Articles 43 and 44 of the Fufa Ethics and Disciplinary Code.
Players Fred Nkata and Moses Ayebale were each banned for five years after the committee concluded they participated in manipulating the November 2025 fixture.
Another player, Ramadhan Dudu, received a two-year suspension for his role in the scheme.
Club official James Kalumba, the technical director of Buhimba, was also handed a five-year ban after being found complicit in the manipulated match.
Fufa said all affected individuals have been formally notified and that the sanctions took immediate effect upon receipt of the rulings.
The latest punishments are part of a broader campaign by Fufa and Fifa to eliminate match-fixing from Ugandan football, particularly in the Uganda Premier League, where several investigations have emerged in recent years.
One of the most prominent cases involved a December 2024 league match between Kitara and Express, which triggered scrutiny after suspicious betting patterns raised concerns of possible manipulation.
In March 2026, Fifa and Fufa imposed global bans on several figures linked to that case, including former Uganda Cranes midfielder Mike Mutyaba, former Express chief executive Ashraf Miiro Mwanje and goalkeeper Emmanuel Kalyowa.
Before his ban, Feni featured for several Ugandan clubs including SC Villa, URA, Proline, Wakiso Giants and Kyetume.
He also had a stint in Kenya with Sofapaka in 2017, where he was among the club’s most productive midfielders during his six-month stay.
His lifetime ban marks one of the most severe sanctions handed down in Uganda’s ongoing crackdown on corruption in football.
