The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has paid tribute to the late Hajjat Sarah Namusisi Kakungulu, describing her as a humble and devout Muslim woman who lived a life of purpose and grace.

Hajjat Namusisi Kakungulu, the mother of Prince Kassim Nakibinge and Prince Khalifan Lukanga Kakungulu, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024.

Mufti Mubaje noted that her legacy was deeply rooted in Islamic values and the rich traditions of Buganda.

“She embodied Islamic etiquette while upholding Buganda’s cherished values,” he said, adding that her supportive role in the royal household enabled her late husband, Prince Al Haj Badru Kakungulu, to serve prominently in public roles, including as the UMSC National Chairman from 1980 to 1985.

Hajjat Sarah’s influence extended beyond her immediate family. As a Muzana (senior member of the royal court), she was revered for her nurturing spirit and commitment to community well-being.

Her passing, Mubaje said, marks the end of an era for both the Kakungulu royal family and the Muslim community in Uganda.

Expressing deep sorrow over her death, Mubaje extended his condolences on behalf of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) during the final UMSC National Management Committee meeting of the year, held at the council's headquarters in Kampala.

To honor her life, Mufti Mubaje directed that Swalatul Janah (funeral prayers) be held at the National Mosque in Kampala.

The prayers were conducted shortly after Zuhr (afternoon) prayers and were led by Sheikh Hafidh Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, the 2nd Deputy Mufti.

The solemn service was attended by Mufti Mubaje, UMSC leaders, and members of the Muslim community who gathered to pay their respects.

The late Hajjat Sarah Namusisi Kakungulu is remembered for her devotion to her family, her faith, and her enduring contributions to the Muslim community in Uganda.

Her passing has left a significant void, but her legacy continues to inspire many.

As the nation mourns, Mufti Mubaje called on the community to reflect on her life and emulate her virtues.

“We have lost a pillar, but her lessons of humility, faith, and service will remain a guiding light for generations to come,” he said.
