Rotarians, led by the Governor of District 9213 Anne Nkutu, lauded the council’s decision and emphasised the importance of the road as a living memory of Owori’s contributions.

The long-awaited road named in honour of the late Rotary International President-Elect, Sam Owori, has been officially launched in Tororo Municipality.

The initiative stems from a 2019 resolution by the Tororo Municipal Council to immortalise the legacy of Owori, one of the district’s most celebrated figures.

During the launch event, Amos Diope, a municipal councillor, expressed gratitude for the recognition of Sam Owori’s contributions and urged Rotarians to take charge of maintaining the road.

“We request that the maintenance of the road be under the control of Rotary, especially regarding lighting and beautification. This will keep the road admirable,” he said.

Rotarians, led by the Governor of District 9213 Anne Nkutu, lauded the council’s decision and emphasised the importance of the road as a living memory of Owori’s contributions.

“We are very happy that Tororo District Local Government and the Municipal Council deemed it fit to name a road after Owori because he was one of the greatest from this district. We hope all who use the road are inspired to learn about him and emulate his values,” Nkutu said.

The Rotarians also pledged their commitment to maintaining and beautifying the road.

“We shall work closely with the council to plant trees and enhance its beauty, making it a beacon of activities. This is what Sam Owori would have wanted,” Nkutu added.

The family of the late Sam Owori expressed heartfelt appreciation to the municipality.

Stephen Owori, the eldest son of the late Rotarian, shared the family’s gratitude.

“As a family, we are deeply honoured that the councillors of Tororo Municipality found it fitting to name a road after our father. We are truly humbled by this gesture,” he said.

The road, now a symbol of Sam Owori’s enduring legacy, stands as a testament to his remarkable achievements and the respect he garnered within his community.

Its launch marks a new chapter of pride and responsibility for Tororo Municipality and Rotary International.
