The Rotary Club of Kibuli-Kampala, led by President Julie J. Kariisa, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Butabika and other stakeholders, has launched a campaign to raise awareness about sickle cell disease and mental health.
Unveiled at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in Nakawa, the initiative aims to educate the public, combat stigma, and counter misinformation surrounding these health conditions.
As part of the campaign, free sickle cell testing was provided to students and attendees.
Rotary leaders highlighted the need for increased awareness, noting that while diseases like HIV/AIDS receive significant attention, conditions such as sickle cell disease and mental health disorders remain overlooked, despite their impact on many lives.
To further promote good health and environmental conservation, six fruit trees—including avocado, mango, and guava—were planted during the event.
The campaign is part of Rotary’s broader mission to enhance community health and well-being.
