As Uganda continues to experience a surge in foreign nationals entering the country, security experts are calling on the government to implement an alien registration system to ensure national security and public safety.

With the increasing number of refugees, immigrants, and foreign workers, Uganda's population is becoming increasingly diverse.

While this diversity has many benefits, it also poses significant security risks if not properly managed.

"Alien registration is a critical tool for any country seeking to maintain national security and public safety," said security analyst, Dr. James Okello.

"It allows the government to keep track of who is in the country, their whereabouts, and their activities."

The lack of an alien registration system in Uganda has led to concerns about the presence of illegal immigrants, human trafficking, and terrorism.

"We need to know who is in our country and what they are doing," said Interior Minister, Hon. Kahinda Otafiire.

"Alien registration will help us to identify potential security threats and take proactive measures to prevent them."

While appearing before COSASE, the Executive Director of NIRA Rosemary Kisembo said government has announced plans to establish an alien registration system, which will require all foreign nationals to register with the authorities and obtain a residence permit.

The system is expected to be operational by the end of the year.
