The Uganda Prisons Service has cautioned officers against engaging with print and electronic media without proper authorisation from the Commissioner General of Prisons.

This warning was issued during a training program conducted for officers in charge of prisons in the Kigezi Region.

The training in Kabale District aimed to enhance the officers' skills in customer care, public relations, mindset change, Uganda Prisons Service doctrines, financial literacy, and improving the prisons' brand, reputation, image, and positive outlook.

Mr. Frank Baine, Senior Commissioner of Prisons and Spokesperson, stressed the prohibition of capturing or sharing photos, videos, or social media content without proper authority.

He warned of serious disciplinary actions for non-compliance.

Baine emphasized respectful treatment of inmates, effective communication, conflict resolution, and strategies for improving the prison's public image.

He also covered personal financial management and urged officers to set a good example and guide junior officers in embracing a saving culture.

Mr. Akankunda Apollo, Commissioner of Prisons (National, Regional, and International Cooperation), highlighted the importance of understanding legal instruments, networking, and engaging with others.

The training also saw the official opening of a customer care desk in the region.

Similar trainings have been conducted in all prisons over the past years, focusing on middle line managers, and have greatly improved the image of the service with good management principles, aiming for safe, secure, and humane custody of offenders.
