UPL: KCCA FC starts title defence with slim win against newcomers Wakiso Giants

Defending champions, KCCA FC on Saturday started their StarTimes Uganda Premier League title defence on a high with a win over newcomers Wakiso Giants.

The game played under a heavy downpour saw only a handful of supporters turn up at the StarTimes stadium Lugogo but this didn’t stop the Kasasiro boys from winning it.

Youngster Allan Okello was the hello of the day when he well connected a Mustapha Kiiza cross from the left with a beautiful header that went past the Wakiso Giants goalkeeper for KCCA FC’s opening and only goal of the day.

Speaking after the game, KCCA FC gaffer, Mike Mutebi heaped praise on “the special talent” that Allan Okello has.

“Okello exemplifies being a special talent that every team that comes to play us plans how to stop him, yet he is only 19,” Mutebi said.

The KCCA FC coach, however, noted that despite being effective his boys didn’t use the ball as they always do but said he was happy they had bagged all the three points.

Wakiso Giants coach, Kefa Kisala rued missed chances for the loss against KCCA FC but noted they would pick themselves up from the ruins.

“We had chances but failed to utilize them. At the end of the day we lost and it is very unfortunate. We shall return home, pick out the positives and build on them,”Kisala said.

In other games, Mbarara City beat newcomers Proline FC 3nil in a game played at Luzira whereas Tooro United beat Busoga United 2-1.
