The Kanungu Secondary Schools Headteachers Association (KADISHA) has suspended all school games, sports activities and mass gatherings outside school premises for Term Two 2026 following directives issued by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and Sports in response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak.
In a circular dated June 5, 2026, KADISHA Chairperson Sauda Nakanwagi directed all secondary schools in Kanungu District to implement immediate precautionary measures effective June 5 until further notice.
The suspended activities include contact sports, inter-school competitions, physical education drills involving physical contact, athletics events, parents’ days, visiting days and large staff meetings.
“Classes will continue as normal, but strict adherence to SOPs is mandatory. Any school found violating this directive will face disciplinary action by the KADISHA Disciplinary Committee,” Nakanwagi warned.
Under the new measures, schools have been instructed to conduct daily temperature screening and enforce handwashing at all entry points.
The association further directed that any learner or staff member presenting symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting or unexplained bleeding should be isolated immediately and reported to health authorities for further assessment.
Schools have also been prohibited from allowing the sharing of utensils, towels and other personal items among learners and staff as part of efforts to reduce the risk of disease transmission.
In addition, administrators have been urged to intensify health education and awareness campaigns within schools to ensure learners and staff understand Ebola prevention measures and the importance of complying with public health guidelines.
The suspension of sports and other gatherings will remain in effect until the Ministry of Health issues further guidance on the Ebola situation.
The move comes as authorities across the country continue implementing measures aimed at preventing the spread of Ebola Virus Disease and safeguarding public health, particularly in institutions that bring together large numbers of people.
