Buganda Kingdom, NCBA Bank Partner  to Promote Environmental Conservation

Buganda Kingdom has signed a partnership with NCBA Bank aimed at strengthening environmental protection through the “Kabaka’s Forest” initiative.

The Second Deputy Katikkiro, Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, presided over the signing ceremony and thanked NCBA for supporting environmental conservation and working with the Kingdom.

He noted that environmental protection and natural resource conservation are key priorities in the Kingdom’s 2023–2028 strategic plan.

He praised NCBA’s commitment to sustainability, saying the bank’s message that “we must exist in this world in a sustainable way in everything we do” is not just written in policy but is being put into practice through this partnership.

Under the agreement, a 50-acre Kabaka’s Forest will be established at the Kabaka’s palace in Lukunyu, Buddu.

Nsibirwa emphasized the importance of environmental protection to the Kingdom, saying it is meant to preserve nature and natural resources for future generations.

He added that the Kingdom already has systems in place to monitor and maintain planted trees, including watering, pruning, protecting them from animals, and ensuring proper growth.

The Minister for Environment, Mariam Mayanja Nkalubo, said the partnership strengthens the Kingdom’s ongoing conservation campaign and reaffirmed Buganda’s commitment to seeing the initiative succeed.

NCBA Uganda Managing Director Mark Muyobo thanked the Kingdom for the collaboration and pledged continued partnership.

He announced that the bank will donate 20,000 indigenous trees to be planted in Buddu County

The partnership will run for three years and is expected to contribute to meaningful environmental impact.
