Kaberamaido: Over 200 LC 3 Court Members Trained in Efficient Justice Delivery

The Chief Magistrate’s Court of Kaberemaido has held a landmark capacity-building workshop for Local Council III (LC III) Court members from Kaberemaido and neighbouring Kalaki District, equipping them with vital skills to improve justice delivery at the grassroots.

The one-day training, facilitated by Acting Chief Magistrate Patricia Ndagire, Magistrate Grade One Aron Baguma, and Magistrate Grade One Research Waiswa Paineto, drew over 200 participants many attending such a judicial engagement for the first time.

The sessions covered the structure and composition of LC III Courts, their jurisdiction and powers, procedures for handling civil and criminal matters, record-keeping, principles of natural justice, remedies available to court users, and the appeals process.

Participants hailed the Judiciary for organising what they described as a “rare and invaluable” learning opportunity, recommending that similar workshops be held at the start of every electoral term.

They also urged for more training to help reconcile formal legal procedures with the strong cultural influences that shape dispute resolution in the region.

Judicial officers at the event were commended for their people-centred approach and commitment to keeping courts open and accessible.

In return, LC III Court members pledged to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice to serve their communities better.

“This training has opened our eyes to the right way of handling cases, balancing both the law and fairness,” one participant said.

The Kaberemaido workshop marks a significant step towards strengthening local justice structures and bridging the gap between formal law and community-level dispute resolution.
