Youth subscribing to the National resistance Movement (NRM) under their umbrella group of NRM Western Activists on Ground have named the current Ibanda district LC5 chairman Happy Herbert Mayanja as their favourite candidate for the position of NRM vice chairperson for Western region.
Minister, Dr.Chris Baryomunsi is the current office holder.
Speaking to Nile Post, the group lead mobiliser Julius Tabaaro, defended their candidate saying “Given his vast experience in politics and representational leadership and local governance he is able”
“He is still in his youthful age and he will raise the voice of the unemployment in the region despite many people thinking that people from western Uganda are rich."
Western Uganda districts being endowed with minerals, fertile spoils and agro tourism districts, the group notes that industrialization should be at the forefront.
“We have seen poverty alleviation programs take shape in Northern and eastern Uganda which seem a a very gradual process in western region, social economic transformation and dealing with poverty, should be felt in western Uganda, we want the programs in Westerners Uganda,” Tabaaro said.
“The incoming NRM vice chairman should address the issue of misconception of all western Ugandans being rich. Impact on agriculture, coffee growing, dairy products, etc. should be at the forefront.”
According to Micheal Mwine, a member of the group, some leaders are too occupied with other duties and neglect the duties of representation on the central executive committee about the issues of the people.
“When people assume offices they are consumed in other duties, this affects the young people across all the sectors of education, sports, entrepreneurs among others,” Mwine said.
However, Herbert Mayanja said he was yet to declare his intention for the position.
