Stanbic Bank appoints Mumba Kalifungwa new CEO

Stanbic Bank Uganda has announced the appointment Mumba Kalifungwa as its new Chief Executive Officer .

Kalifungwa is currently serving as the Absa bank Uganda’s Managing Director.

In a statement on Monday, the Stanbic board of directors said Mumba’s appointment is effective March, 1, 2025  adding that it follows regulatory approval .

“Mumba brings to our team, nearly 30 years of post- qualification experience, 20 of which have been dedicated to serving in the banking sector, mostly in senor leadership roles covering business, development, risk management, strategy formulation and finance strategy in three African markets of Botswana, Zambia and for the last five years- Uganda,” the Stanbic board said.

“Given this broad experience, and his most recent work  in  the country, the board is confident the bank will continue to thrive under Mumba’s leadership  as we pursue our purpose of driving Uganda’s growth.”

Mumba  previously served as Chief Financial Officer for Absa Bank Botswana Limited since 2015. Prior to that, he was the Chief Financial Officer for our operations in Zambia.

He  is a Chartered Accountant and seasoned organisational leader having over 24 years post-qualifying experience across banking, public and private sectors.

He is currently a fellow of; the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).

He also holds an MBA from Herriot Watt University, Scotland and has attended various senior leadership development programs over the years.

Kalifungwa will now fill the position left vacant early this year after Anne Jjuuko was elevated to become the Eastern African regional Head of Global Markets for Standard Bank Group in Nairobi.
