President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Saturday 24th February 2024 met and held discussions with the International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor, Mr. Karim A. A. Khan KC at State Lodge, Nakasero.

During the meeting, the two parties discussed among other issues; Uganda's importance as a well-respected state party to the ICC.

Mr. Khan praised the Ugandan government for its vital role in putting an end to the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency in Northern Uganda and its support to ICC in prosecuting the war criminals.

“I'm very grateful to share your knowledge of history and understanding of the region. This has been a very productive meeting and I hope to come to Uganda again for more such engagements,” he said.

Khan is also expected to meet with Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka and the Director External Security Organisation ( ESO) Ambassador Joseph Ocwet. Khan already interfaced with Uganda's Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao in Hague, Netherlands where a trial for Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) warlord Joseph Kony will commence soon, albeit in absentia.

According to the Prosecution's submission of the Document containing the charges, Joseph Kony is suspected of 36 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity, allegedly committed between at least 1 July 2002 and 31 December 2005 in northern Uganda. While the case originally involved Raska Lukwiya, Okot Odhiambo and Vincent Otti, proceedings against them were terminated due to their passing.
