At exactly 11:01pm, NRM Electoral Commission chairman Tanga Odoi declared Ms Kabagyeni as the official flag bearer bringing an end to an exciting primaries whose campaigns the party organised in a group format for all to campaign jointly.
The two-horse race had six other aspirants all of whom polled measly figures.
Ahead of the NRM primaries to decide who will hold the party flag for the November 14 by-election, President Museveni - who is also the party chairman - summoned then 13 aspirants to State House for talks.
It later emerged that he had asked the aspirants to stand down for Ms Akifeza. While five bowed their heads, Ms Kabagyeni and seven others insisted the voters hat to decide.
The by-election follows the death of Sarah Mateke, the former State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, and Woman MP for Kisoro, in early September.
The late Sarah trounced Kabagyeni in the 2021 vote to take the seat the latter is trying to regain.
The other aspirants in the primaries are Hellen Mbonye, Winfred Faith Igiraneza, Jemimah Irakunda, Blessed Kitentera, Irene Mahirwe, and Fancy Brenda Nirere.
