2024 dog walk excites Kampala
Dog lovers and owners over the weekend gathered at the Railway Grounds in Kampala for the annual dog walk.
This year’s walk saw owners who also included government officials traverse Kampala streets to raise awareness about rabies in dogs.

Kampala Central division deputy RCC, Ali Shafic Nsubuga told the gathering the rabies is a deadly disease, noting that immunization of the animals is the only way to prevent it.
He said that it is more worrying is that rabies can spread from animals to humans if dogs bite humans.
“This year’s dog walk is a rare opportunity for us to raise awareness about this disease but to also to help dog owners get free vaccination,” Nsubuga , a dog lover said.
According to World Health Organisation, it is estimated that 21,476 human deaths per year in Africa are attributed to dogs and rabies.
Dogs cause 99% of all human cases of rabies .
The chairperson of the dog walk, Peter Katongole said in future, they will explore turning the event as a tourism activity that can attract participants from other countries.
He asked the Ministry of Tourism to give a hand in organizing the event and growing it to international level.
The event climaxed with an awarding ceremony where best performing dogs received medals and certificates.
