The Adjumani district local government has been applauded for it's ingenuity to start using the recently constructed ICU unit even before commissioning.
On Friday the deputy IGG Patricia Achan inspected an an ICU unit constructed under the Development Response to Displaced Impacts Project (DRDIP) and she was immensely impressed by the timely response of the district to allow the hospital to start using the ICU unit.
"Emergency cases are already being handled within the facility although waiting for formal commissioning. But because of emergencies the facility is under full use" said Achan.
"We are very impressed by this project because we can see service delivery is going to be enhanced," she added.
The construction of the ICU unit at Adjumani general hospital is estimated to be at 98 percent.
Adjumani district received shs55 billion for the project to cater for the ICU unit at Adjumani general hospital, the construction of an abattoir, and roads among others.
However the Adjumani Resident District Commissioner Peter Taban Data called for the expansion of the unit in order to accommodate the oxygen cylinders.
"In future the district is thinking that if any other project comes, we need to have a plant of our own".
It is estimated that over 207,000 refugees reside in Adjumani, which close to half of the district population.
The hospital administration says the unit has been of great help especially when handling emergencies.
"Alot has been done here, the infrastructure is very good, initially we were depending on a one room house to handle medical emergencies, which was not adquate" said the Adjumani general hospital superintendent Doctor Michael Ambaku.
The deputy IGG Patricia Achan has been inspecting the implementation of the DRDIP government project in the refugee hosting districts in Northern Uganda.
