Reports of disorganisation and corruption at Busega Market have prompted the intervention of the Inspector General of Government (IGG), Beti Kamya.
She visited the market today to gather firsthand information and address the concerns raised by traders.
Charles Bugembe, chairperson of the market vendors, refuted claims of internal conflicts among traders.
Speaking to a gathered crowd, Bugembe emphasized the unity among vendors and dismissed rumors of divisions or fights within the market.
However, Abdala Kitatta, the NRM chairperson for Rubaga, expressed concerns over individuals exploiting the situation to extort money from vendors.
He highlighted his efforts in helping traders secure proper stalls and trading spaces, urging IGG Kamya to investigate these alleged opportunists and ensure justice is served.
Addressing the stakeholders, IGG Kamya promised a comprehensive investigation into the reported irregularities.
She assured the public that her office would uncover the truth and take appropriate action against those found culpable.
Ms Kamya also committed to compiling a detailed report of her findings and releasing it promptly.
The controversies at Busega Market center on allegations of corruption, unfair allocation of stalls, and political interference.
Some traders claim that market stalls are being sold at exorbitant prices, while others point to a few individuals owning multiple stalls, leaving many traders without access to trading spaces.
As investigations proceed, traders remain hopeful that the issues will be resolved and that order will be restored to Busega Market.
