Authorities in Kitagwenda District have officially launched the distribution of free mosquito nets, with Village Health Teams today turning up to collect the nets for delivery to communities across the district.
The exercise is part of the nationwide campaign rolled out by the Ministry of Health Uganda on April 7, 2026, aimed at distributing 25.8 million long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets across 130 districts in Uganda in an effort to reduce malaria infections.
Speaking during the launch on Tuesday, the District Malaria Focal Person, Anthony Tukwasiibwe, said the district registered at least 43,617 households during the house-to-house registration exercise ahead of the distribution.
Tukwasiibwe noted that the district is targeting to distribute more than 113,000 mosquito nets to a target population of over 207,518 residents.
“We carried out house-to-house registration and managed to register 43,617 households across the district. We are now distributing mosquito nets to ensure that every household is protected against malaria,” Tukwasiibwe said.
He urged all residents, including those who may have missed the registration exercise, to go to their designated village distribution points and collect the mosquito nets.
“We encourage all community members, whether they registered or not, to visit their village distribution centers and pick up mosquito nets. The most important thing is for every family to have and properly use these nets,” he added.
Tukwasiibwe also emphasized the importance of proper usage of mosquito nets, saying sleeping under treated nets every night remains one of the most effective ways of preventing malaria, especially among children and pregnant women.
The distribution exercise is expected to continue across all sub-counties in Kitagwenda district in the coming days as authorities intensify efforts to fight malaria in the area.
