The role of Defense Advisers is critical in ensuring that Uganda’s interests are well-represented and protected in the countries where they are deployed

The Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Adviser for Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has stressed the pivotal role of Uganda’s Defense Advisers in safeguarding the country's interests internationally.

Speaking at the annual Defense Advisers' summit at the Defense Intelligence and Security Headquarters in Mbuya, Gen Kainerugaba thanked the Uganda Peoples' Defense Forces (UPDF) advisers and attachés for their ongoing contributions and reiterated the importance of their duties in representing Uganda abroad.

“The role of Defense Advisers is critical in ensuring that Uganda’s interests are well-represented and protected in the countries where they are deployed,” Gen Kainerugaba said, addressing the summit attendees.

The three-day event, aimed at orienting new Defense Advisers while also updating the existing ones on their responsibilities, featured presentations from experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The summit provided an opportunity for the advisers to engage in discussions that focus on Uganda’s defense diplomacy and foreign relations.

Gen Kainerugaba reminded the attendees that, as representatives of the UPDF and Uganda, they must consistently prioritize national interests, foster military diplomacy, and maintain strong bilateral relationships with host countries.

The summit was attended by senior military leaders, including Chief of Joint Staff Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, Chief of Defense Intelligence and Security Maj Gen James Birungi, and Maj Gen Bob Ogiki.

They participated in the closing session, underscoring the summit’s significance in enhancing Uganda’s defense and security strategy globally.
