Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba hails Minister Oboth Oboth
Thousands of locals from Bukedi sub-region convened at Siwa Primary School playgrounds in West Budama Central constituency, Tororo, for a thanksgiving ceremony of Jacob Oboth Oboth, the Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including religious and cultural leaders, ministers, and members of parliament, with Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defense Forces, serving as the chief guest.

However, the ceremony, marked by cultural dance performances, was also used as a platform to rally support for Minister Oboth, ahead of the 2026 elections.
In a fervent endorsement, Denis Hamson Obua, the Government Chief Whip, expressed his desire to see Oboth secure an overwhelming victory in the upcoming elections.
"I want to see Oboth going through come 2026 with almost 100%," Obua declared, urging constituents to continue with their support for Oboth.
Rukia Isanga Nakadama, the Third Deputy Prime Minister, who represented Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, cautioned the people of West Budama Central constituency against voting out Oboth, emphasizing the potential loss of ministerial representation for the district.
"If you want to maintain the ministerial position in the district, please vote Oboth Oboth. In fact, that's what I was even told by the Prime Minister to tell you people," Nakadama conveyed to the crowd.
The event also witnessed a significant political shift, as numerous leaders of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party announced their defection to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, symbolically handing over their party cards to Tanga Odoi, the NRM Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.
In his address, Chief of Defense Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni for appointing Oboth as the Minister of Defense, highlighting his qualifications for the role.
"With Oboth Oboth, we have hope that the foundation of the Ministry of Defense will continue to be strong. We thank thepresident for appointing you minister; he made a good choice," Muhoozi said.
The thanksgiving ceremony not only celebrated Minister Oboth's achievements but also set the stage for his political journey towards 2026, with widespread support from both local leaders and national figures.
