Death of Kenya’s CDF is a great loss to East Africa- Gen Kainerugaba
Gen Francis Omondi Ogolla died last week.

The Chief of Defence Forces in the UPDF, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has described as a great loss to the entire East African region, the death of the Kenyan Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Francis Ogolla.

Gen Ogolla died in a helicopter crash on Thursday.

In his tribute, Gen Kainerugaba described the air crash and resultant death as being unfortunate not just for Kenya but the entire region.

“As the UPDF, we recall a particular incident that highlights Gen. Ogolla's commitment to service. During the tragedy of the UPDF helicopters crashing into Mt. Kenya in 2012. He was the commander of Nanyuki Air Base, and he climbed up the mountain himself to search for survivors. His actions directly contributed to the rescue of two helicopter crews,” Gen Kainerugaba said in his eulogy.

He said the UPDF stands in solidarity with Kenya and all the citizens of the country upon the death of their army’s Chief of Defence Forces.

“On behalf of the UPDF and my own behalf, I extend our deepest condolences to His Excellency William Ruto the Commander in Chief, the KDF fraternity and all the people of Kenya and East Africa who mourn this loss. General Ogolla's vast military experience and expertise will indeed be greatly missed.”

“During these difficult times, may the Almighty grant strength to General Ogolla's family.”

He urged officers in the Kenyan Defence Forces to honour Gen Ogolla’s legacy by continuing to work towards a more secure East Africa and Africa, a vision he said the late cherished.

Gen Francis Ogolla was laid to rest on Saturday.
