The Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE) and its partners have celebrated Ugandan entrepreneurs who are leveraging technology to create a positive impact in their communities.
Through the Tech4Work program, which targeted Ugandan citizens aged 18-35, the initiative aimed to inspire young entrepreneurs to develop solutions addressing the country's challenges. The program provided financial support and mentorship opportunities to help implement winning ideas.
Winners were selected based on criteria such as their stage of development, relevance to national needs, potential impact, and sustainability. The top three awards were as follows:
Safemed claimed the first prize of $3,000 for its innovative approach to improving healthcare access.
Green Gate Youth Organization secured second place with $2,000 for its dedication to environmental sustainability.
Shatoo earned third place and $1,000 for its practical solution addressing the safety of schoolchildren.
Speaking at the event, FUE CEO Douglas Opio commended the participants for their creativity and resilience. He encouraged them to take advantage of their youth and embrace the transformative power of knowledge.
“Eighty percent of challenges in Uganda stem from a lack of knowledge. By seeking knowledge and developing the right skills, young people can create solutions to the issues around them. Tools like AI, when used effectively, can generate impactful ideas and improve livelihoods,” he said.
Mr. Opio further emphasised the importance of cultivating positive habits, time management, spiritual growth, and strong interpersonal values as key to achieving personal and professional success.
Mr. Amadou Sako, IOU Adviser for Africa and Tech@Work Project Coordinator, reflected on the importance of integrating digital tools in the workplace.
He highlighted how technology can amplify the effectiveness of innovative solutions and foster sustainable growth.
Participants in the Tech4Work program will also benefit from mentorship by seasoned entrepreneurs, facilitated through the Federation of Uganda Employers. This guidance is expected to enhance their ability to scale their projects and maximize their impact.
The success of this initiative underscores the potential of Uganda's young entrepreneurs to tackle pressing challenges and contribute meaningfully to national development.
